about

The year of the tiger began on 1st of February 2022. I was teaching a Tai Chi lesson that night and we celebrated the new year. One student asked what to expect in the year of the tiger and I answered “war”. To my horror it appears I was right.
Yet there are many tigers. A tiger is not only an adversary, it can also be a defender. It can be the strength inside you to overcome problems, it can be big, beautiful and serene.
These three tracks, named and derived from Tai Chi forms, use ancient Chinese harmony to explore different aspects of the tiger, and our relationship to this magnificent and dangerous beast, that, once respected and understood, can be as powerful a force for peace and reconciliation as a harbinger of war.

“Neither in the spirit of Eno’s own Tiger mountain excursions nor in the manner of Orientalism, Jono surprises with a soundtrack representation devoid of those Chinese musical signatures. Instead, traversing ambient, techno, soundscaping and the kosmische he paints a unique homage, respectful acknowledgment to China’s ancient symbolism and the most majestic, powerful of creatures.”
